FiSCA is continuing its efforts to support its members and the communities most affected by Hurricane Sandy.  Most significantly, we are pleased to announce that FiSCA is partnering with our industry partners Western Union and MoneyGram International, to support the American Red Cross as it supports hurricane stricken communities.  (See press release here.)

Below are links to materials describing how FiSCA members can participate in the Western Union and Money Gram efforts to have the greatest impact.  As you will see, both programs provide for matching funds.  We urge that you strongly consider supporting these efforts.  Please review the agent information attached and consider participating in the program that applies to you. 

As these programs proceed, Money Gram and Western Union will provide their agents and FiSCA with reports on the funds raised by FiSCA members.  Knowing the spirit of our industry, we hope to see strong support of these efforts to support hard-hit communities and businesses as they work to recover and rebuild.

Resources to Help FiSCA Members Recover from the Storm

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, FiSCA is committed to providing resources to help the industry recover from this catastrophic storm. To assist in that effort, here are links to a number of resources that can help businesses recover:

  • DisasterAssistance.gov - provides information on how you might be able to get help from the U.S. Government before, during and after a disaster. You can apply online for assistance.
  • FEMA - As President Obama has made clear, FEMA will be directly, actively engaged in the recovery and has made an array of resources available to those impacted by the hurricane.
  • American Red Cross - provides assistance in a wide arrange of natural disasters, including floods. Its  Flood Safety Checklist includes information about what to do after a flood. This may be particularly useful to your customers.
  • New York City - The Department of Small Business Services (SBS) and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), is coordinating a set of services to assist small businesses in recovering from Hurricane Sandy. Click here to learn more.   • New Jersey Disaster Assistance is also available. Click here to learn more.  
  • New Jersey Department of Health is making public health experts available through the state's 2-1-1 system to answer questions about food and water safety and mold removal. To reach health experts, call 2-1-1 or 1-866-234-0964.
